Since my childhood, I have been a curious philosopher trying to understand human life and existence. I have been concerned about human circumstances that might impact and determine one’s life choices and path. These interests along with my life journey have given depth to my constantly evolving understanding of people and led me to the helping profession. Because I have lived in several cities and countries, I have been exposed to many cultures and points of view while experiencing interesting environments, which helped me become a Bicultural Psychotherapist.
In my career, I have collaborated with diverse organizations, which has allowed me to develop a systematic understanding of the human experience and life functioning. With the complexity and diversity of human life, I believe there is no “one size fits all” therapeutic approach. I like to stay updated on the latest research and best practices in counseling and mental health in order to increase my therapeutic tools. By staying professionally current I am able to provide personalized services to address the needs and challenges presented in each person’s recovery journey.
I am especially interested in helping people increase their understanding of root causes of issues in their lives. By understanding where circumstances originated, I find it leads to improving day-to-day life and relationships. Uncovering one’s strengths helps an individual build on the life skills they already have leading to more happiness and satisfaction.
I am a trauma informed therapist trained in several therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Mindfulness, Systemic Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Gottman Level I, CETA Training (UW), Existential therapy and Psychodynamics. I practice from a culturally sensitive framework to help people improve their self-esteem and intimate and family relationships by reducing the challenges that stem from codependence, depression, anxiety and problems adjusting to life events. I also have extensive experience working with people who are having difficulties adapting after immigrating to the US as a bicultural therapist (Spanish).
I completed my undergraduate degree in 2000 from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Psychology, with a minor in Clinical Psychology and my master’s degree in Systemic Family Therapy in 2003 from Universidad del Valle de Atemajac. I have worked in several settings including schools, psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centers, community mental health and domestic violence shelters, which allowed me to learn and serve people with diverse circumstances to help in their healing and recovery process.
From all of these experiences I am proud to be a therapist and honored to walk with you in your recovery and healing journey.
