We have identified Therapists & Wellness Practitioners who have agreed to dedicate a portion of their time to providing Free Therapy & Wellness services in partnership with DMHS. The purpose of DMHS Free Therapy is to identify clients with the highest needs, and refer them to Therapists & Wellness Practitioners who are already giving back to their communities, to provide short-term triage services that result in connecting clients with long-term care.
Therapy & Wellness services in this program will be 12 sessions (or more, at Therapist’s discretion) within the calendar year (12 month period). Practitioner and/or client can terminate therapy at any point in this process. Practitioner and client will determine whether therapy needs to be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
Your Therapist or Wellness Practitioner will help you work through daily life events or changes such as food inequality, being without a home, stress management, life during/after the pandemic, relationship and family issues in order to get you to a place of long-term care.
Once you reach 12 sessions, your Therapist or Wellness Practitioner will either offer to continue services (cost will be determined by Provider), OR provide 3 resources to refer you to.
From an equity perspective, our intention is to introduce Melanated people to high quality Therapy or Wellness services that is culturally relevant and affirming. Our intention is to cover the cost of Therapy. Therapy sessions can cost anywhere from $80-$200+, on average $150. By offering 12 sessions of FREE Therapy & Wellness services, we are saving clients an average of $1,800.
How it works:
Potential Clients may complete the DMHS Free Therapy & Wellness Application below. Applications are reviewed weekly, and referral to a Therapist will depend on their availability.
OR
Reach out to a Therapist or Wellness Practitioner participating in this program for availability. Based on availability, Therapist will contact you and provide a Direct Referral Application for you to complete, as well as intake paperwork.
DMHS will contact you quarterly, and after services are complete for feedback.
*Note: Fully licensed Therapists or Associate Therapists who are already receiving supervision may opt out of the Referral Application and Feedback process*
Potential Clients with the highest needs, who identify as Black, Indigenous or People of Color will be prioritized in the selection process for Free Therapy.
This program is based on potential client’s needs and Therapist availability, so there is not a guaranteed timeline for delivery of services. When you are seen will depend on when the Therapists have Pro-Bono Therapy Slots open.
