Alexis Shaney, LCSW-S
As a queer, biracial, neurodivergent survivor of complex trauma that lives with a mood disorder, I approach therapy through a lens of deep knowing of how the breakdown of systems in my life, my community, and broader society have and do impact my lived experience and life outcomes. Engaging with therapy is confronting a big, scary reality or truth in your life that society or even maybe your community sees as something to get over versus something to heal through. It’s these core traumas or truths about ourselves that are connected to every facet of our social, emotional and physical lives, especially if you’re a survivor of trauma
My therapeutic approach is person-centered and strengths-based, utilizing a brain-, mind-, and body-based lens informed by social justice. I incorporate evidence-based methods and holistic techniques—including art, music, and literature—to support healing for clients of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds.
I approach therapy as a clinician who is also healing from personal trauma and managing a mental health disorder through a lens of decolonization, equity, and intersectionality. In our sessions, I use a trauma-informed approach to foster a supportive and inclusive environment. My goal is to help you foster self-awareness at a pace that feels right for you.
